The Nike Air Max 1 Olympic brings a clean, patriotic look with a standout metallic gold Swoosh, evocative of a gold Olympic medal. While the name comes from the colorway, this isn’t a direct reissue of any previous Olympic-themed AM1. The mix of obsidian and white keeps things classic, while subtle red hits on the branding and top eyelets add a little extra flair.
One thing to note—this isn’t the same as the Air Max 1 Essential from 2015 that also had a gold Swoosh. That pair featured a white leather upper with blue mesh underlays, while this version sticks to a more traditional felt and mesh combo.
What really makes this pair stand out is the shape. The toebox has that nice, pointy slope, giving these a sleek and aesthetically pleasing look. Combined with the clean colorway and the pop of metallic gold, these feel like a solid pickup. I debated grabbing these for the latter half of 2024, even mentioning them a few times on my podcast. Now, in 2025, I finally found them on sale at Reynolds and Sons and pulled the trigger. Feels great to finally have them!
Nike keeps it simple with the standard orange box and white flat laces. No extras, just a straightforward presentation.
Materials
Pretty much what you’d expect from a general Air Max 1 release. The upper is a mix of mesh and felt, nothing premium, but nothing disappointing either. The one exception is the metallic gold Swoosh, which is done in leather and adds a nice pop to the design.
Fit & Comfort
Standard Air Max 1 fit—true to size is the way to go. Cushioning is the usual for a retro AM1, meaning not the softest but still solid for all-day wear. If you’re familiar with the model, you already know what to expect.
If these are sold out online, you can try looking for them on eBay.
